Most state laws do not allow general businesses to handle bank deposits, which applies to any service if the general corporation is the recipient of the money, which is credit payable on demand instead of coins on behalf of the account holder. States often consider a banking license to be part of the normal corporate franchise terms in state bank charters. Opening or running a bank also requires compliance with regulations and laws, even sometimes FDIC approval to cover and open an account with a Federal Reserve Bank (or other establishment of a facility to settle checks by settling with a credit that has been issued by the Federal Reserve Bank).
