The country has reached the final stage of its Czech VASP to CASP transition. The key date is 1 July 2026. From then on, firms providing activities covered by MiCA Czech Republic need the appropriate CASP status or another valid route under EU rules.
The change matters most to firms that previously operated under the local VASP model. Their previous position could not simply continue indefinitely once the deadline passed.
Quick Answer: What Does MiCA Mean for the Czech Republic in 2026?
The temporary period ended on 1 July 2026. After that date, a firm carrying out activities covered by MiCA needs an appropriate CASP license Czech Republic.
For local firms, the CNB is the authority handling MiCA license Czech Republic. A firm approved elsewhere in the EU may also operate in this country through the EU single-market passport, where the applicable conditions are met.
Czech MiCA Position at a Glance
| Point | 2026 position |
| Key date | 1 July 2026 |
| Czech authority | CNB |
| Main route | CASP approval under Czech MiCA transition |
| Temporary period | Finished |
| EU reach | Possible through the single-market passport |
| Who can continue? | Firms with the appropriate MiCA status or another permitted basis |
The date is important because the old local route is no longer enough for activities falling within Czech crypto regulation 2026.
The CNB states that after 1 July 2026, firms without the necessary status must stop offering covered activities in the EU.
Czech MiCA Transition 1 July 2026: What Changed for Crypto Companies in Czech Republic in 2026?
Until the deadline, firms that were already operating could continue their work while waiting for a decision on their new status.
That period is now over.
The Czech VASP transition has therefore reached its final stage. For firms already active in the local market, the first thing to check is where they stand today. There are several possible situations:
- the firm has received the required Czech Republic crypto licence 2026;
- it has approval from another EU country and can use the EU passport;
- its activities do not fall under the new rules;
- it can no longer provide activities covered by MiCA.
In other words, an old status cannot simply be treated as valid indefinitely. Each firm needs to look at what it actually does and whether its current position allows it to continue.
Is a VASP License Still Valid in Czech Republic?
It is no longer sufficient to rely on an old VASP status in case the activities of the firm are currently under new regulations.
When the local legislation was still in force before EU rules got their full effect, providers which wanted to proceed with their activities had time to transfer from the old regime. This VASP to CASP Czech Republic process gave existing providers an opportunity to obtain the status needed for their continued operations.
That period finished on 1 July 2026. Firms have been deprived of their previous status and cannot carry on offering the activities based on it unless they have got the new status.
An existing service provider should review its legal status, offerings and whether another EU route is available. It has become clear that reliance on a former VASP status alone does not constitute a secure method.
Who Needs a MiCA CASP License for Czech Crypto Companies?
Not every firm dealing with digital assets falls automatically into the same category.
MiCA covers specific crypto asset services Czech Republic, including:
- holding digital assets for clients;
- operating a digital-asset marketplace;
- arranging purchases or sales;
- exchanging one digital asset for another;
- executing client orders;
- receiving and transmitting orders;
- placing digital assets;
- giving investment advice;
- managing digital-asset portfolios;
- transferring assets for clients.
The actual service offered matters more than the label used by the firm.
A software developer working on blockchain infrastructure, for example, should not be treated in the same way as a provider holding assets for customers.
What Does the New Position Look Like?
The easiest way to understand the change is to compare the old and new positions:
Earlier: eligible existing providers could continue for a limited period while moving toward MiCA.
From 1 July 2026: that temporary route ended.
Today: the firm needs a valid basis for the activities it actually performs.
For expansion: a local CASP may use the EU CASP passporting mechanism to enter other EU markets, subject to the relevant procedure.
This last point is particularly important for firms planning to serve clients beyond the country. The Czech market is no longer just a domestic question.
How to Get a CASP License in Czech Republic
A new applicant should begin with its actual operating model.
Before approaching the CNB, it should be clear:
- which activities will be offered;
- who will own the firm;
- where key functions will be performed;
- how the business will earn revenue;
- who will oversee daily operations;
- how client assets will be protected;
- how AML controls will work;
- how internal risks will be identified and handled;
- what financial resources will support the operation.
The CNB has made clear that the quality of submissions varies considerably. By July 2026, it reported that many submissions lacked essential information, while some applicants had unclear ownership, virtual offices or business models that could not be properly verified. Only a small share presented a transparent business model, ownership arrangement and financing method.
That is an important practical lesson: a request should describe a real operating structure rather than simply reproduce generic templates.
Czech CASP Readiness Checklist
A serious applicant should get ready these points before moving forward:
- Legal entity and current status;
- Defined activities;
- Transparent UBO structure;
- Credible business plan;
- Governance;
- AML/KYC;
- Risk controls;
- Financial resources;
- Regulatory file.
The last point deserves attention. A mismatch between what a firm says on paper and what it intends to do in practice can create unnecessary problems during assessment.
What Does the Data Show?
The numbers show how demanding the local process has been.
The first six approvals of the CNB were granted on 11 February. At the time, there were 248 submissions.
In total, 251 submissions were reviewed by 1 July, whereas, in contrast, approvals went up only to 11.
Those figures should not be interpreted as a simple success-rate calculation. The CNB pointed out that the quality of submissions was very different, while some of them were missing the basic information for an assessment.
For prospective applicants, the message is fairly clear: preparation matters.
Can a Czech CASP Operate Across the EU?
Yes. There is a single EU route for those having a CASP authorisation Czech Republic. Once a firm has the necessary approval, it can notify its intention to operate in other EU states and use the single-market passport, provided the proposed activities fall within its approved scope.
The same principle works in the opposite direction. A firm having an EU crypto licence in another state may enter the Czech market through the relevant EU procedure.
For this reason, a local structure can be considered as part of a wider European strategy.
What Happens If a Crypto Company Is Not Authorised Under MiCA?
An entity without a Czech crypto license after MiCA transition cannot continue offering activities covered by Czech Republic MiCA simply because it operated in the past.
The CNB states that such entities must stop onboarding new clients and inform existing clients about the steps needed to wind down their operations. Continuing without a crypto license in Czech Republic may lead to supervisory or enforcement action.
This makes the post-July position particularly important for firms that have not yet resolved their status.
Czech Republic MiCA in Practice: What Should Firms Do Now?

A useful review should cover:
- Current activities;
- Existing local status;
- Czech Republic MiCA position;
- Current outcome;
- EU options;
- Operational structure.
